Yes Geoff there are arrangements being made by the Largs Viking Festival Committee to celebrate the 750th Anniversary. A Special Projects officer has been appointed to come up with a celebratory programme of events. Meantime the Viking Festival continues to be held on an annual basis and in 2011 will run from 27 August to 4 September. See www.largsvikingfestival.com for the 2010 event. This will be updated in June for this year's event.

Does anyone know if Largs is doing anything special to commemorate 1263 as being the year in which Alexander III beat the Vikings at there - 750 years ago come 2013?

At www.largs.co.uk it tells us "The Pencil Monument was built to commemorate the 1263 Battle of Largs. The monument, built in 1912, is for the Scottish people to remember the resolve they had in repelling attacks by the Norwegians."
